Impacting The Community

Charlain Bailey is someone who goes above and beyond for her students. In fact at Montgomery Blair High School, she was known as the Counselor “parents in the know” wanted for their child. One of her passions is finding the resources to support first generation students to enter and be successful in college. She has continued that work since she retired from MCPS. For many families and students, Ms Bailey is the only person who can make sense of the difficult process of applying for college, applying for financial aid and all that goes into access and success in the world of higher education…

What makes Ms Bailey an important leader in our community is the fact that she works tirelessly to change lives for the better. The fact that she does that coaching and prep work specifically with students who are the first in their families to go to college is critical in Montgomery County. I have watched and supported Charlain Bailey as she created opportunity for young people, who many times are forgotten or overlooked. As the county continues to address racial equity, there is much to be learned from someone like Charlain Bailey about concrete ways to dismantle systemic barriers.
